Hand enamelling, and what it does to the colour

The scorpion is recessed into the band and filled by hand with enamel in a small Tbilisi studio, then cured. Because it is filled rather than printed, the colour has physical depth — you can see it sit down into the design and catch light at the edges of the shell and tail. Hand-filled enamel also means small differences between rings: slightly deeper colour on one, a marginally crisper tail on another. Every one is finished individually.

Fit

The band is open at the back and adjusts across roughly a US 6 to 9. Ease it wider or narrower at the open ends with your fingers rather than bending the decorated front, and it will hold its shape. For gifting, this removes the ring-size problem entirely.

Materials and care

Gold-plated base metal with hand-applied enamel. Plating lives on the surface, so keep it away from water, soap, hand sanitiser and cosmetics — take the ring off before washing or swimming, and put it on after moisturiser rather than before. Clean it with a dry soft cloth; never with silver dip, jewellery polish or an ultrasonic cleaner, all of which remove plating.

Is the enamel a sticker or a print?
Neither. It is enamel filled into a recessed design by hand and cured, which is why it has depth rather than sitting flat.

Will it turn my finger green?
Not in normal dry wear. Plated jewellery reacts when it is repeatedly wet — remove it for washing, showering and swimming and it will behave.
