Description

The malachite pendant is the piece you reach for when you cannot decide what to wear. A generous slab of natural malachite — deep forest green, marbled with paler concentric rings — hangs from a hand-finished 925 sterling silver bail, big enough to carry a plain shirt on its own without any other jewellery.

Why a slab rather than a small stone

Small malachite cabochons read as a colour accent. A slab reads as the piece itself. Cutting larger means the lapidary has to follow the banding across a wider face, so the pattern on your pendant is a full section through the stone rather than a fragment — you can see the rings turn and double back. It is the difference between a green necklace and a stone worth looking at closely.

Materials and dimensions

Natural untreated malachite, set in 925 sterling silver. The bail is sized to take a standard 2mm chain, so it will hang from a chain you already own if you would rather not use ours. On a 45cm (18″) chain the pendant sits just below the collarbone; on a 60cm (24″) chain it drops to mid-chest, which suits it well over a knit or a jacket. Because it is a natural stone in a hand-built setting, weight and outline vary slightly piece to piece.

Care

Malachite is soft and porous. Put the pendant on after perfume, hairspray and moisturiser, not before, and take it off before showering or swimming. Wipe with a dry soft cloth; keep silver polish and ultrasonic cleaners well away from the stone. Stored flat in its box rather than tangled in a drawer, it stays sharp for decades.

The bail fits a standard chain up to 2mm. If you want a particular length, say so at checkout and we will source it with the piece.

Is the green dyed?
No. The colour is the mineral itself — malachite is naturally green because it is a copper carbonate. Nothing is dyed or stabilised.

How fast does it ship to the United States, and are there customs charges?
It is made or sourced from the artisan after you order, so most orders land in about two weeks with emailed tracking. We ship duties-paid (DDP), so customs and import duties are already included and you pay nothing extra at the door.
